Debbie Plouffe is a co-founder and associate vice-president of Business Development for the Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT), a full-service contract R&D company which develops customized solutions to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in the aquaculture industry. In her role with CAT, Debbie is involved in strategy development, sales, marketing, communications, and strategic partnerships with the company’s portfolio of clients and collaborators worldwide.
An alumna of the University of Alberta, Debbie graduated with a BSc. in Invertebrate Biology and a Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology and has held leadership roles at the National Research Council (NRC) and AquaBounty Technologies where she contributed to the regulatory approval of the world’s first food animal product of biotechnology, the AquAdvantage salmon.
Debbie spent nine years with CAT on Prince Edward Island in Canada and in 2021 relocated to the company’s office in San Diego, California where she is working to establish CAT as a leader in the field of genetic improvement in aquaculture.
